Animal tissues are compounds of specialized units that work together to perform specific functions. They are characterized according to their features, which are: (1) Animal tissues can be single-layered or multi-layered, (2) They have the ability to reproduce and regenerate, (3) They are supported by various functions (e.g., fine function, tight junctions, desmosomes, etc.), and lastly, (4) the plasma membrane is specialized with flagella, cilia, and microvilli.
