Laboratory Activity: The Digestive System (4 out of 4 examined slides)
–
📝 Name of Specimen: Liver Human, c.s.
🔬 Objective/s Used: Scanner, Low-Power, High-Power, and Oil Immersion Objectives
📚 Description: Based on the John Hopkins Medicine website (n.d.), the liver is a prominent organ that can be seen in the upper right quadrant of the belly, directly below the diaphragm’s protective structure. The liver of the human is perched above other organs, for example, the stomach, kidneys, and the like. Furthermore, talking about the function of the liver means recognizing that it facilitates an array of metabolic processes necessary for maintaining the body’s equilibrium. Normally, the liver accomplishes a distinct number of vital functions, such as processing of foods, generation of bile, and others, it assures that it carries on appropriate physiological functioning. Therefore, even though the liver is comparably small in size, it still plays an essential role as the body’s metabolic powerhouse.–
📝 Name of Specimen: Tonsil Human, section
🔬 Objective/s Used: Scanner, Low-Power, High-Power, and Oil Immersion Objectives
📚 Description: Human tonsils are located near the intersection of the digestive and respiratory systems, which act as watchful components warding off invasive germs that may disrupt the balance of our bodies. As essential parts of the immune system, these lymphoid tissue clusters serve as the body’s first line of defense, quickly identifying and neutralizing possible threats (Masters et. al., 2023). Furthermore, when detecting signs of danger, human tonsils initiate an instantaneous immunological reaction, which then puts up a signal to the immune cells to destroy and possibly remove the invaders. This quick response thwarts possible sickness by preventing the infection from spreading further into the body. Therefore, we must emphasize the importance of the human tonsils as what it does to our body is as significant as other parts of the digestive system.–
