Activity 2D: Nervous Tissue
The cerebrum is the largest region of the brain and handles the highest cognition processes such as thinking and reasoning. It is composed of two hemispheres the left and right cerebral hemispheres that pass signals to each other through a bundle of nerve fiber named corpus callosum.
The cerebellum is at the back part the brain, under the cerebrum. It is very critical for coordination of movement, balance and posture. Aside from it contributes to the acquisition of motor skills and the adjustment of muscle tone.
The spinal cord is a long, cylindrical organ that stretches from the bottom part of the brain (medullary part). It finishes in the lower spinal cord. The spinal cord is a vital way for the brain to communicate with the body, from sensory data (body to brain) to motor data (brain to body).
Nerve fibers are the long, tiny and thin projections of the nerve cells (neurons) that conduct electrical signals inside the body, both in the Central Nervous System and the Peripheral Nervous System.
