Activity 2: The Human Tissues – Slide Pictures
Specimens seen:
1. Epithelial Tissue (Human squamous epithelium): It covers both the inside and outside surfaces of the body. Examples include skin and the lining of organs. It protects, absorbs, secretes, and senses.
2. Connective Tissue (Reticular tissue cross section): This tissue supports and connects body organs and tissues. It includes types like bone, blood, and cartilage. Some of its functions include support, protection, and transportation.
3. Muscle Tissue: There are three types: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth. Skeletal muscles allow voluntary movement, cardiac muscles pump blood, and smooth muscles control involuntary movements like digestion.
4. Nervous Tissue (Human spinal cord): It’s found in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Nervous tissue transmits electrical impulses, allowing us to sense and respond to stimuli.
