    Activity 6: Urinary System
    Medium: Color pencil

    Description: 📚

The urinary system is a group of organs that are responsible for filtering the blood of its waste products and excess fluids and expelling them out of the body in the form of urine. This system also regulates blood pressure and electrolyte balance. The organs that compose this system are the kidneys, urinary bladder, ureters, and urethra.

    Portrayed tissues: 🎨

The ureter (1) is a thin tube that carries urine to the urinary bladder from the kidneys. It is composed of transitional epithelium and smooth muscles that facilitate peristalsis.

The kidney (2) is the main organ that has nephrons that filter the blood. It is composed of many cells including podocytes, mesangial cells, and other endothelial and epithelial cells.

The urinary bladder’s (3) lining is composed of urothelium or transitional epithelium. Along with its other key structures, it helps the bladder to expand and stretch to store urine.

Lastly, the penile urethra (4) is the tube where the urine travels and gets expelled from the urinary bladder.

Note: All drawings were based on the microscopic images provided by our instructor.
