MT 30 (LAB) – ANervous tissues are composed of neurons. Neurons are composed of a cell body, dendrites, and axons. Supporting and protecting these neurons are numerous glial cells. Some nervous tissue in the body include:
1. Spinal Cord – This connects the brain to the lower back. The spinal cord carries nerve signals to and from the brain and the rest of the body (Cleveland Clinic, 2021).
2. Nerve Fiber – These nerve fibers can either be efferent or afferent fibers and are found all over the body. Efferent fibers transport signals from the central nervous system to the effector organs. Afferent fibers carry information from the inside and outside of the body to the central nervous system.
3. Cerebellum – This is part of the brain and is located near the brain stem. It is the part of the brain coordinating voluntary movements, balance, and posture (Cherry, 2023).
4. Cerebrum – It is the largest part of the brain. It is located in front and top of the head covered by the skull and functions in controlling language, behavior, and sensory processing (Cleveland Clinic, 2022).Cherry, K. (2023).
