The reproductive system, as suggested by its name, serves functions in the reproduction of our species. Males and females differ in terms of their reproductive organs. The reproductive system of males serve mainly to produce and protect sperm that will be delivered to the female reproductive system. The female reproductive system serves to produce egg cells, nourish and protect the growing fetus after fertilization, and nourish the infant after birth (Mescher, 2021). Here are some of the organs of the reproductive system:

1. Oviduct – This is also known as the fallopian tube. This is where the unfertilized egg produced in the ovaries await the sperm for fertilization. When fertilization occurs, the oviduct transports the egg to the uterus via ciliary action.
2. Penis – This is the male organ of copulation. It has erectile tissue that make the penis become erect during sexual intercourse as well as the urethra that delivers the semen during ejaculation.
3. Prostate – This is one of the accessory organs of the male reproductive system. It produces a fluid that is mixed with the sperm as it travels to the urethra. It contains a mixture of exosomes, glycoproteins, enzymes, and small molecules like prostaglandins.
4. Epididymis – The epididymis is located at the upper back of the testes. This is where the sperm from the testes are further modified and stored as they wait for ejaculation (Mescher, 2021).
