    Activity 2B: Connective Tissue

    Connective tissue is a type of tissue that supports and connects various structures and
    organs in the body. This provides a framework for the body’s overall structure and
    function. It is characterized by an abundance of intercellular matrix with relatively few
    cells.

    📍Adipose Tissue
    Adipose tissue is a specialized type of connective tissue that is primarily found under the
    skin. This acts as a shock absorber and insulator to help maintain body temperature. It
    also stores energy in the form of fat, which can be released when needed by the body.

    📍Human Blood Smear

    Blood is a specialized fluid connective tissue that circulates throughout the body. These
    transports oxygen, nutrients, and waste products, as well as participating in the immune
    response. It is composed of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets suspended in
    a fluid matrix called plasma.

    📍Areolar Tissue
    Areolar tissue is a type of loose connective tissue found throughout the body. It supports
    and connects various organs and structures. It contains a loose arrangement of collagen
    and elastic fibers, as well as fibroblasts, macrophages, and mast cells, which allow it to
    provide flexibility and cushioning.

    📍Embryonic Connective Tissue

    Embryonic connective tissue, also known as mesenchyme. A primitive connective tissue
    found in the early stages of embryonic development. It is composed of undifferentiated
    mesenchymal cells surrounded by a matrix of reticular fibers and serves as a precursor
    to the various specialized connective tissues that will form in the mature organism.
