Human muscle tissue is composed of three main types: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth.
Skeletal muscle is the most abundant type, making up around 40% of body mass. It is attached to bones by tendons and allows for voluntary movement and posture control. Skeletal muscle fibers have a striated appearance due to the regular arrangement of contractile proteins.
Cardiac muscle is found only in the heart and is responsible for the heart’s pumping action. It is an involuntary, striated muscle that contracts in a coordinated manner to circulate blood throughout the body.
Smooth muscle is found in the walls of internal organs like the digestive tract, blood vessels, and uterus. It is non-striated and contracts involuntarily, facilitating functions like digestion, blood flow regulation, and childbirth.
