The urinary system, also known as the urinary tract or renal system, is the body’s filtration and waste removal system. It consists of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. The kidneys filter the blood, removing waste and excess water, which becomes urine. The ureters transport the urine from the kidneys to the bladder, where it is stored until it is eliminated from the body through the urethra during urination. The urinary system plays a critical role in regulating blood volume, blood pressure, electrolyte levels, and blood pH. It also contributes to the production of red blood cells and the activation of vitamin D.
