The respiratory system is the network of organs responsible for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the human body. It consists of the lungs, airways (nose, mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles), diaphragm, and associated muscles. The primary function of the respiratory system is to bring oxygen into the body during inhalation and remove carbon dioxide during exhalation, facilitating gas exchange at the cellular level This vital process allows the body’s cells to receive the oxygen they need to function and removes the waste product carbon dioxide.
