    Activity 6: The Urinary System

The urinary system’s primary function is to filter blood and create urine as a waste by-product. The system includes the kidneys, renal pelvis, ureters, bladder and urethra.

Kidney – humans have two kidneys located in the retroperitoneum. They remove waste products and maintain the balance of fluids in the body.

Ureter – narrow tubes that deliver the urine from the kidneys to the bladder.

Urinary bladder – located in the lower abdomen, it serves as a storage for urine before it is excreted from the body.

Penis – inside the penis is the urethra which is a hollow tube that delivers the urine outside the body.
