The circulatory system also referred to as the cardiovascular system, is responsible for distributing oxygen, nutrients, and waste products among other things. It consists of the heart, blood vessels, and, of course, the blood. The blood vessels that transport oxygenated blood are known as arteries, while those that transport deoxygenated blood are called veins. Arterioles are small blood vessels involved in the exchange of gases and nutrients with tissues.
Blood travels through the heart in a loop: passing through the right atrium, then entering the right ventricle, going to the lungs to acquire oxygen, coming back to the left atrium, going to the left ventricle, and finally being circulated throughout the body. This process ensures that all body functions and balance in the internal environment are sustained.
