Activity 7: Respiratory System
It is responsible for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the body and the environment

?︎ Trachea – known as windpipe, is a rigid tube composed of cartilage rings and smooth muscle fibers; open passageway for air to move between the larynx and the lungs

?︎ Lung Cat – primary organs of respiration, located in the thoracic cavity on either side of the heart; facilitate the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide during respiration

?︎ Bronchiole – small airway branches that extend from the bronchi within the lungs which lacks cartilage and contain smooth muscle, allowing them to contract and dilate; regulates airflow to different regions of the lungs by constricting or dilating in response to various stimuli, such as nervous signals or changes in chemical composition

?︎ Epiglottis – a leaf-shaped flap of elastic cartilage located at the base of the tongue, in the throat; acts as a valve to direct food and liquids into the esophagus during swallowing, ensuring that they reach the stomach safely without entering the respiratory tract
