[1] Human Kidney
Description: The human kidneys appear like bean-shaped organs, each having a fist size. They can be found just beneath the rib cage. They are responsible for filtering the blood and removing waste products in order to produce urine. Additionally, the kidneys help in maintaining the balance of water, salts, and minerals in your blood and also generate hormones to control blood pressure, produce red blood cells, and keep the bones strong.
[2] Human Urinary Bladder
Description: The human urinary bladder is a hollow organ with a triangle shape, located in the lower abdomen. It is supported by ligaments that are connected to other organs and the pelvic bones. It has the capability to expand and relax in order to store urine. Meanwhile, it can also contract and flatten to empty urine through the urethra during urination. Did you know that a healthy adult bladder can store up to two cups of urine for two to five hours?
[3] Ureter Mammal
Description: The ureters are two narrow tubes that deliver urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder. Muscles that are present in the ureter walls tighten and relax to push the urine downward to the bladder, away from the kidneys. Did you know that every 10 to 15 seconds, small amounts of urine are emptied into the bladder from the ureters?
[4] Frog Kidney
Description: The kidneys of a frog are dark red in color, bean-shaped, compact, and are located in the posterior portion of the body cavity on both sides of the vertebral column. Just like the human kidney, frog’s kidneys also consist of many functional and structural units called the nephrons. They have the same function to human kidneys as well, which is to filter blood and regulate blood pressure. Did you know that when a frog has been on land for a longer period of time, its kidneys reabsorb water?
