    📍Activity 7: The Respiratory System 🔬

    🫧Larynx
The larynx, commonly called the voice box, is an organ at the top of the neck involved in breathing, producing sound, and protecting the trachea against food aspiration. The opening of the larynx into the pharynx known as the laryngeal inlet is about 4–5 centimeters in diameter. The larynx houses the vocal cords and manipulates pitch and volume, which is essential for phonation.

    🫧Bronchioles
The function of the bronchioles is to deliver air to a diffuse network of around 300 million alveoli in the lungs. As you inhale, oxygenated air is pulled into the bronchioles. Carbon dioxide collected by the alveoli is then released from the lungs as you exhale.

    🫧Lungs
The main function of the lungs is to perform the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide with air from the atmosphere.

    🫧Trachea
The trachea is the long tube that connects your larynx (voice box) to your bronchi. Your bronchi send air to your lungs. Your trachea is a key part of your respiratory system. The trachea is made of rings of cartilage. It’s lined with cells that produce mucus. This mucus keeps allergens, dust particles, or other debris out of your lungs.
