    Laboratory Activity: The Urinogenital System

📝 Name of Specimen: Kidney Human, section
    🔬 Objective/s Used: Low-Power Objective
📚 Description: Human kidneys are paired organs that can be in the body’s upper abdominal quadrants which are integral to the urinary system (KenHub, 2023). In describing the kidney’s function, they work by expelling surplus bodily fluids or salts, which hones a pivotal role especially in terms of regulating the acid-base equilibrium of the mammal’s body. Human kidneys are seen to be similar to that of a bean with discernible superior and inferior poles.

📝 Name of Specimen: Human Urinary Bladder
    🔬 Objective/s Used: Low-Power Objective
📚 Description: An organ that temporarily stores urine before excretion, is the human urinary bladder that acts on to be one essential pelvic organ. It can be found positioned behind the symphysis and pubic bones that can expand into the abdominal cavity when volume of urine changes. Moreover, in a histological perspective, the lining of the urinary bladder is made up of transitional epithelium, which makes it capable of a stretching capacity (KenHub, 2023).

📝 Name of Specimen: Frog Kidney, section
    🔬 Objective/s Used: Low-Power Objective
📚 Description: A frog’s kidneys, just like that of a human plays a fundamental role in ixcreting excess water, maintaining salt-water balance, as well as removing various nitrogenous waste (Allen, 2023). Without the presence of functional kidneys, the frogs would deliberately struggle to surive within their inhabited aquatic environment.

📝 Name of Specimen: Ureter Mammal, c.s.
    🔬 Objective/s Used: Low-Power Objective
📚 Description: An organ that is responsible for transporting urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder for temporary storage is the ureter of the mammal (KenHub, 2023). In a histological point of view, it is made up of smooth muscles layers that aids in contractions involving peristalsis to propel urine. Both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems facilitate the innervation to the ureters allowing for its function.
