The integumentary system is the body’s outer layer, consisting of the skin, nails, hair, and the glands and nerves on the skin. It acts as a physical barrier, protecting the body from bacteria, infection, injury, and sunlight. It regulates body temperature and allows sensations like hot and cold to be felt through the skin.
