Cardiac rhythm refers to the pattern of electrical activity that regulates the beating of the heart. It describes the sequence and timing of heartbeats, which are controlled by the heart’s electrical conduction system. The normal cardiac rhythm, known as sinus rhythm, originates from the sinoatrial (SA) node in the right atrium. This rhythm ensures that the heart beats in a coordinated manner, pumping blood effectively throughout the body.

Abnormal cardiac rhythms, known as arrhythmias, can occur if there are issues in the heart’s electrical system. Arrhythmias can cause the heart to beat too fast (tachycardia), too slow (bradycardia), or irregularly, which can affect the heart’s ability to pump blood efficiently.
