Activity 1: The Cell DiagramCells are the basic units of life. The animal cell is a type of eukaryotic cell that is not enclosed with a cell wall and is composed of different organelles with different functions. Among these organelles include the nucleus (for DNA storage), mitochondrion (energy production), rough endoplasmic reticulum (protein production), smooth endoplasmic reticulum (lipid production; detoxification), Golgi apparatus (protein modification; transportation), lysosome (protein destruction), vacuoles (cell volume regulation), centrioles (cell structure), and cell membrane (cell protection). These organelles help the eukaryotic cell carry out its specific role in the body.
