It is a branch of biology and pathology that studies how cells and tissues are organized and how they function. Histology plays a very important role in understanding the structure and function of organs, diagnosing diseases, and researching cellular processes. The human cell is the basic structural and functional unit of life. Cells are highly specialized, performing various functions that sustain life.
Knowing how histology and the human cell work provides a fundamental background to biology and medicine. Understanding how tissues and organs function at a microscopic level will help in understanding how cellular dysfunction leads to disease.
