    NEPHRON

The functional unit of the kidney which is the nephron appears in my diagram while depicting blood movement along with the filtrate. The nephron’s afferent arteriole transports blood flow into the glomerulus space for filtration to occur while water and ions along with tiny molecules enter the Bowman’s capsule. Filtrated blood travels from the efferent arteriole to access the peritubular capillary system before its substances are reabsorbed. The filtrate moves from the Bowman’s capsule into the proximal convoluted tubule to obtain useful substances before continuing throughout the Loop of Henle to concentrate urine by reabsorbing water and ions. The distal convoluted tubule follows the filtrate after the proximal convoluted tubule then collects the final urine in the collecting duct before its excretion from the renal pelvis. The filtering process of blood alongside waste removal explains how the nephron works to sustain body equilibrium.
