MT 30 LEC – AA (HISTOLOGY ART) 1 year, 6 months ago Comments on the 3 articles assigned last meeting:
What is RNA and What is its Function?
– The article highlighted 3 of the well-known types of RNA which are: mRNA, tRNA, and rRNA, all of which have specific functions in the cell. The mRNA as the product of transcription, tRNA as the one that aids in protein synthesis, and rRNA as one of the molecules needed for translating mRNA into proteins. In the other parts of the article, RNA’s function in the process of protein synthesis was also mentioned, emphasizing the importance of RNA in all sorts of cellular activities. Is DNA the Only Genetic Material?
– Aside from answering the main question which is if DNA was the only genetic material, the article also mentioned a few other examples of genetic material that are present in organisms like plasmids and RNA. Additionally, the article also stated facts about DNA such as where we can find it, its chemical structure including its chemical units (sugar, nitrogenous base, and phosphate group), and the criteria that was put in place to prove that DNA is indeed a genetic material. What are Epithelial Tissues?
– The topic of epithelial tissues was explained in detail. Its functions and structures enabled these types of tissues to be classified into 2 types: covering/lining and glandular. Two other classifications of epithelial tissue that were mentioned were according to cell shape and number of layers. Scale-like cells are called squamous, cube-like are cuboidal, and cylindrical elongated cells are columnar. On the other hand, 1 layer of epithelial cells are called simple, while 2 or more layers are called stratified. These different types of tissues are found all over the body performing their various functions.
