A nephron is the fundamental functional unit of the kidney, responsible for filtering blood and forming urine. Each nephron consists of several parts, including the renal corpuscle (which contains the glomerulus and Bowman’s capsule) and the renal tubule (comprised of the proximal and distal convoluted tubules, and the loop of Henle). The primary tissues present in nephrons include epithelial tissue, which plays a crucial role in absorption and secretion processes. Nephrons function by filtering blood, reabsorbing necessary substances, and secreting waste products, effectively regulating fluid balance and electrolyte levels. In this way, nephrons help maintain homeostasis in the body and eliminate waste through urine formation.
