MT 30 LEC – AA (HISTOLOGY ART) 1 year, 6 months ago Connective tissues bind structures together, form a protective framework, store fat, transport substances, and help repair tissue damage. It generally consists of the following parts: 1) extracellular fibers, 2) ground substance, and 3) stationary and migrating cells. However, in its more specialized forms, one component or another may predominate over all the others.Two types of connective tissues are shown in the figure below.
Bone, or osseous tissue, is a rigid and strong connective tissue with mineralized extracellular components. It contributes to numerous body functions, including mechanical support, protection of vital organs, enabling movement, fat and mineral storage, and hematopoiesis.
Areolar connective tissue is a loose connective tissue which provides a protective framework that keeps major structures in place and offers support.
