The nephron is the functional unit of the kidney. The term nephron comes from the Greek word, nephros, which means kidney. The process of filtering blood starts at the glomerulus, a network of tiny capillaries surrounded by the Bowman’s capsule. The filtrate then passes through the PCT, loop of Henle, and DCT where it undergoes several reabsorption processes. Finally, the site where the maximum reabsorption of water happens is, the filtrate heads to the collecting duct. The final product, urine, is then expelled from the body.
