When I created this image of a flying eukaryotic animal cell, I wanted it to represent more than just biology—I wanted it to capture the idea of cell communication in a visual and imaginative way. The wings symbolize the cell’s receptors, constantly reaching out to catch signals from the environment, like hormones or neurotransmitters. The motion of flight represents the signal transduction pathway, where the message travels from the cell surface deep into its core to trigger a response. Even the sky around it—filled with other flying forms or elements—reflects the constant exchange of information between cells. To me, it’s a reminder that communication is vital, even at the microscopic level.
