Here’s my illustration of the structure of the nephron, which is the functional unit of the kidney responsible for filtering blood and forming urine. Key components include the Bowman’s capsule and glomerulus, which perform the initial filtration of blood. The proximal convoluted tubule, loop of Henle, and distal convoluted tubule modify the filtrate through reabsorption and secretion. The collecting duct carries the final urine product to the renal pelvis. Blood supply to the nephron is provided by the afferent arteriole, interlobular artery, and glomerular capillaries, with reabsorption occurring through the peritubular capillary network and venules, ultimately draining into the interlobular vein.
