This article highlights the critical role of the pre-analytical phase in laboratory QA: even a few percent of rejected samples can waste resources and delay patient care. By applying ISO 15189 guidelines to sample rejection criteria , the study provides a standardized benchmark that other labs can emulate. For medical laboratories in practice, the findings suggest the importance of regularly tracking specimen rejection rates as a key quality indicator. High rejection rates point to areas needing improvement – for example, reinforcing proper phlebotomy technique or order-entry procedures in wards with elevated errors. Aligning with international standards (ISO 15189) ensures consistent quality rules; indeed, the authors’ use of these standards underlines how global frameworks can guide local QA efforts . Overall, this work implies that clinical labs (especially in similar regional settings) should implement routine audits of pre-analytical errors and invest in staff education or process redesign to reduce sample rejections, thereby enhancing the reliability of laboratory services.
