Human tissue is made up of groups of similar cells that work together to perform specific functions in the body. There are four main types: epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue. Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and lines internal organs, serving in protection, absorption, and secretion. Connective tissue supports, binds, and protects structures, and includes bone, blood, cartilage, and adipose tissue. Muscle tissue is responsible for movement through contraction and is classified into skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle. Nervous tissue controls and coordinates body activities by transmitting electrical impulses. Together, these four tissues form organs and organ systems that maintain the body’s structure and function.
