For this Histology Art activity, I chose to show the power used in a softball bat swing. This movement mainly uses the skeletal muscles of the upper body and core to create strength and speed. Instead of drawing the tissue like a normal microscope slide, I included the features of skeletal muscle directly in the athlete’s uniform. The striations, nuclei, and muscle fibers appear as patterns on the clothing to represent the microscopic structure of the tissue. Through this drawing, I wanted to show that the movements we see in sports are made possible by the small structures inside our muscles.
