MT30 – BB (LEC) 1 week ago For my Intramurals specific moment, I chose a signature Tennis Smash, focusing on the moment of elastic recoil in the Shoulder/Forearm Tendon complex. This required identifying Elastic Connective Tissue.
While Collagen (the thick pink bands) provides the high tensile strength needed to keep the tendon from snapping under pressure, the real star here is the extensive network of branching, thin, and highly wavy Elastic Fibers.
In this illustration, you can see these fibers storing incredible potential energy like a coiled spring as I arch back. When they rapidly recoil—the “snap”—they generate massive racket head speed. I’ve visualized these energized elastic fiber bundles transforming into the “spring mechanism” of the court.
