SMOOTH MUUSCLE TISSUE
The smooth muscle tissue is one of the three types of muscle cell tissue along with the skeletal muscle/striated muscle and cardiac muscle. Smooth muscle tissue is also called the visceral muscle because it is usually located in the internal organs. Unlike the other types of muscle tissues, it doesn’t have any striations. It is specially made for slow and steady contractions controlled by a variety of involuntary mechanisms. Its unique feature is its fusiform shape(like a spindle) wherein its nucleus, usually one but can be two, is centrally located on the broadest part of each cell. Some areas where smooth muscle can be found are blood vessels, digestive system, respiratory tract, urinary bladder, and uterus.
