Fibrocartilage is the tough, very strong tissue found predominantly in the intervertebral disks and at the insertions of ligaments and tendons. It is a mixture of hyaline cartilage and dense connective tissue and is dominated by thick fibers of collagen which is essential for withstanding pressure. Fibrocartliage is usually referred to as “shock absorbers”.
