Pathophysiology is the study of how diseases affect bodily processes. This study entails a great understanding of physiology (study of bodily functions) and pathology (study of the cause and effect of a disease).

Illnesses cause different physiological functions to become affected. This results in changes in homeostasis which can lead to major organs and body systems malfunction. Pathophysiology allows the understanding and prediction of how these changed processes can lead to further complications.
