PrimaCare is a Primary clinical laboratory offering the following tests:
Clinical Microscopy
- Urinalysis:
Procedure: Collect a urine sample, usually midstream. Analyze for color, clarity, specific gravity, pH, protein, glucose, ketones, blood cells, and bacteria under a microscope. - Blood Smear: Procedure: Place a drop of blood on a slide, spread it thinly, and stain. Examine under a microscope to assess the shape, size, and number of blood cells, aiding in the diagnosis of disorders like anemia or infections.
- Cerebrospinal Fluid Analysis: Procedure: Collect cerebrospinal fluid through a lumbar puncture. Analyze for cell count, protein, glucose, and microorganisms. This helps diagnose conditions affecting the nervous system.
Hematology
- Complete Blood Count (CBC):
Procedure: Draw a blood sample. Analyze for red blood cell count, white blood cell count, platelet count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. Provides a comprehensive overview of blood composition. - Peripheral Blood Smear:
Procedure:Create a thin blood smear on a slide, stain, and examine under a microscope. Evaluates the morphology of blood cells, aiding in the diagnosis of various blood disorders. - Coagulation Studies:
Procedure: Assess blood clotting ability by measuring factors like prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), and international normalized ratio (INR). Helps diagnose clotting disorders. - Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR):
Procedure: Measure the rate at which red blood cells settle in a tube. Elevated ESR indicates inflammation and can aid in diagnosing conditions such as infections or autoimmune diseases. - Blood Typing:
Procedure: Determine the blood group and Rh factor through specific antigen-antibody reactions. Crucial for blood transfusions to ensure compatibility.
