MT 30 – GH (Lec) 3 years, 11 months agoHello everyone! check out this article I found at Science Direct. The article “Arterial wall histology in chronic pulsatile-flow and continuous-flow device circulatory support” mentioned that end-stage heart failure can be treated using continuous-flow (CF) ventricular assist devices (VADs). However, the impact of long-term CF with no per…[Read more]

MT 30 – GH (Lec) 3 years, 11 months agoGood day, I would like to share the article I’ve read with regard to the connection of cardio-oncology and COVID 19. This article implies that there is cardiovascular toxicity in the body is a result of cancer therapies , radiation therapy and pharmacologic techniques. It also implies that the cardiovascular toxicity in COVID is a result from the…[Read more]

MT 30 – GH (Lec) 3 years, 11 months agoHello everyone!! I came across this article and it caught my attention. It is about the Continuous-flow (CF) ventricular assist devices (VAD) as an established option for the treatment of end-stage heart failure. Thus, the impact of long-term CF on blood pressure control and end-organ arterial wall sclerosis, particularly in the event of long-term…[Read more]

Covid – 19 has caused us significant loss in several facets of our lives. What concerns me the most is the impact on our physical health. We know that if we become Covid…

I’ve learned how important mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices are for assisting the heart when it’s not functioning right. Patients with cardiopulmonary…

MCS patients have access to cutting-edge technology, including ventricular assist devices (VADs) and total artificial hearts. Second, third, and soon fourth-generation…

At the histological level, the way the heart’s cells work is a big part of how it works normally and how it changes over time. And when you are infected with covid-19,…

Still, MCS application to a large patient population is still technically challenging and resource costly, with a high fatality rate. And as the scientific-community…

MT 30 – GH (Lec) 3 years, 11 months agoHello everyone! Histology is indeed a broad topic to study. It does not only revolve around humans, but it includes animals too. In this study I found, a group of researchers studied Suwalesi Medaka, a fish that is endemic to South Suwalesi, Indonesia. The researchers’ main objective was to analyze whether the said animal was fit for model…[Read more]

MT 30 – GH (Lec) 3 years, 11 months agoCardiomyocyte loss is a prevalent cause of heart failure since adult mammalian hearts have limited regenerative ability. Transplantation of cardiomyocytes is a straightforward method of human heart repair. The transplantation is often reliant on human pluripotent cells (hPSCs) as the cell source to generate cardiomyocytes. This is one of the key…[Read more]

MT 30 – GH (Lec) 3 years, 11 months agoHi! I apologize for posting late due to chronic hives. Well, I hope everyone is well in the comfort of their own homes.
Nevertheless, I found an interesting article that has sparked interest in me.

The article, “The Aging Cardiovascular System: Understanding It at the Cellular and Clinical Levels” by Camici, Cañestro, Libby, Luscher, and Paneni (2017) highlights the need to understand how aging develops into cardiovascular disease. Thus, awareness is the first step toward coming up with strategies to face this challenge.
-
In this article, I found out that age-related conditions pose challenges to the clinical care of cardiovascular (CV) patients. Aging causes the hardening of the aorta due to increased levels of collagen and decreased elastin.
-
Moreover, increased oxidative stress and inflammation stimulate CV aging. Thus, the authors consider aspects of vascular repair, including autologous transplantation of bone marrow-derived stem cells in elderly patients.
