It persists in human adults at the ends of bones in free-moving joints as articular cartilage, at the ends of the ribs, and in the nose, larynx, trachea, and bronchi. It is a glossy blue-white in appearance and very resilient. Collagenous Connective Tissue – consist of types I, II, or III collagen and are present in all types of connective tissue. Collagenous connective tissue is divided into two types, based upon the ratio of collagen fibers to ground substance. Ground substance is an aqueous gel of glycoproteins and proteoglycans that occupies the space between cellular and fibrillar elements of the connective tissue.
