Elastic cartilage is one of three types of cartilage found in the human body. It is known for its flexibility or its ability to snap back into its original form or resting form – due to the addition of elastin fibers to the extracellular matrix. It can be observed that chondrocytes is abundant throughout the tissue which is important for the production and maintenance of the matrix. Elastic cartilage is usually found in the auricle of the ear, the walls of the external auditory canals, the auditory (Eustachian) tubes, the epiglottis, and the upper respiratory tract.
