Low-density lipoproteins are a type of lipoprotein, which are particles of lipids and proteins carrying fats through the bloodstream. Too much LDL contributes to plaque buildup in arteries, causing diseases and strokes. That is why lowering LDL is crucial. Lowering LDL cholesterol levels includes eating heart-healthy food, exercising regularly, reducing stress, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding tobacco use. The normal range of LDL cholesterol for most adults is below 100 milligrams per deciliter. For those who have a history of atherosclerosis, the LDL should be below 70 milligrams per deciliter.
