They have thin walls because the blood that the veins experience have less pressure than in the arteries where its walls are thicker to withstand more pressure. Veins are thinner than arteries because the pressure that is present in the veins is much lower than the arteries. Since arteries carries blood away from the heart, they have thick walls that can withstand more pressure.
