Open Source vs Closed Source

The difference between Open Source Software and Closed Source Software typically lies in how the source code is treated and shared. Open Source is software in which the public is free to inspect, modify, and enhance the source code. Source code is the code that computer programmers can modify and alter to change how a certain software works. Some examples of open source software include Linux (operating system), Git (version control system), and Mozilla Firefox (web browser). Closed-source software on the other hand is software whose source code is proprietary and not shared with the public. Some examples include Microsoft Windows, Adobe Photoshop, Apple macOS, and Microsoft Office.
