Tissue is a collection of cells with identical structures that work as a unit. The spaces between the cells are filled with a nonliving substance known as the intercellular matrix. This could be plentiful in some tissues while being scarce in others. The intercellular matrix may contain peculiar components, such as salts and fibers, that are unique to a particular tissue and give that tissue its individual features. The body is made up of four types of tissue: epithelial, connective, muscular, and nerve. Each is intended for a specific purpose.
