MT 13 – GH 2 years ago Like school facilities, every part of a cell serves a specific purpose. This can be compared to a school. The cell membrane functions as the school gates, controlling who enters and leaves, while the nucleus makes decisions and monitors operations similar to the principal’s office. The cytoplasm is analogous to the office area and hallways where people gather and do business. The mitochondria produce energy, much like the school’s generators. In the same way that teachers teach students, ribosomes manufacture vital components for the cell. Materials are moved about by the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), which functions as a kind of communication and transportation system. Lastly, lysosomes maintain order by taking away waste, much like janitors do.
