The nervous system is one of the most complex systems in the body and its role is to control and coordinate all the functions and activities of an organism. It is mainly classified into two major categories which are the CNS and the PNS. The CNS encompasses both the brain as well as the spinal column. It is the one that is most often in charge of running most of the body’s functions and movements, analyzing incoming information, and prescribing responses. On the other hand, the PNS which consists of sensory and motor neurons connects the CNS to the rest of the body and allows the brain to talk to various tissues and organs.Another part of the nervous system is neurons or nerve cells, which are the building blocks of the system and carry signals through electrical impulses and chemical excitation in order to respond instantly to internal and external conditions.
All in all, this system controls voluntary and involuntary actions and also complex activities such as thinking and even the ability to form memories. It is what makes us human, distinct from all other living creatures. It is what makes you “you”.
