Reflection on Romans 1 and 2

In Romans 1, God’s righteousness is emphasized, as it highlights how God’s nature is revealed through His creation. Roman’s 1 also talks about the nature of sin and how people have turned away from God to worship other created things, and Paul points out the kind of sinful behaviors and the consequences of rejecting God’s truth. Due to people being very sinful, Paul emphasizes the universal need for salvation through righteousness by faith in Jesus Christ.

In Romans 2, Paul continues to discuss the issue of judgement and hypocrisy among people, and how God’s judgement is righteous and impartial. He emphasizes that God’s kindness is intended to lead people to repentance, and it’s not just hearing the law but obeying it is what matters. Paul also acknowledges the privileges and responsibilities of the Jews in receiving God’s law, and how they are not exempted from God’s equal judgement, as both the Jews and the Gentiles will be judged according to their deeds. This is what God desires in us: an inner transformation and righteousness in our hearts.
