    • Taylor, A. M., & Bordoni, B. (2021) discusses pericytes in this article. It is the basic cell for blood vessel health, development, and function. They play diverse roles in the brain and retina, where they help form the blood-retinal and blood-brain barriers. They regulate glomeruli function in the kidneys and are required for extracellular matrix remodeling in the hepatic arteries. Their involvement in vascular immune response and phagocytic activity is emerging. The blood vessel must always be considered unique, depending on the anatomical location and tissue requirement.
It also discusses how the circulatory system’s arteries are designed to perform specific functions and anatomical links. There are three common layers of the vessel wall that show these alterations. The tunica externa, medium, and intima.
