Both sexes have mammary glands, although they are often exclusively functioning in females. It is essential for lactation, or the development of milk, yet structurally it resembles altered sweat glands. Both men and women have glandular tissue inside the breasts; but, in females, it develops in conjunction to the production of estrogen during puberty.References:
