Finals Task Part 1 – Reflection/Insights on what you have learned in MT 14:
I learned about the complexities of running a laboratory and gained insights into HIS, LIS, and material management. I learned about how difficult and complex running a laboratory is though the group work we had been doing, making policies and creating a structure for our laboratory. We also had an interview from a hospital that I learned even more from, I figured hospitals would have really advanced systems in place because of how advanced technology has been but It wasn’t like that, they still used old and outdated tech and it was a little saddening. I learned about HIS or Health Information Systems and how they includes various components such as electronic health records (EHR), health data analytics, computerized physician order entry (CPOE), clinical decision support systems (CDSS), and telehealth systems. I learned about Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) which is mainly about sample tracking, test ordering, result reporting, quality control, inventory management, and instrument interfacing. Also most recently I researched about the importance of Material Management in both the Clinical Laboratory and at home. I imagine all this information will be useful to me in the long run when I eventually become part of the health Industry myself.
