MT 13 – GH 1 year, 1 month ago Blood cells are the cellular components of blood, playing vital roles in maintaining health and supporting bodily functions. They are suspended in plasma, the liquid portion of blood, and are categorized into three main types: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Red blood cells (RBCs) are responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the tissues and carrying carbon dioxide back to the lungs for exhalation. These cells are biconcave in shape, lack a nucleus, and are rich in hemoglobin, a protein that binds oxygen; they typically have a lifespan of about 120 days.
White blood cells (WBCs) are crucial for defending the body against infections, foreign invaders, and abnormal cells. They are further divided into granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophil, lymphocytes and monocytes), with lifespans ranging from a few hours to several years depending on the type. Finally, platelets, or thrombocytes, are small cell fragments derived from megakaryocytes in the bone marrow. They play an essential role in blood clotting and wound healing by forming plugs in damaged blood vessels. Together, these blood cells work harmoniously to transport substances, defend the body, and repair injuries.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EWdxClihJ_ecBYenSGXcyCPf19GD3UaD/view?usp=drivesdk
